Message from Stephen, Fairtrade Fortnight in Lancs. and this weeks Reflection.

Dear All

Please find attached the Mid-week Reflection and two notices from the District.

The Circuit streamed service on Sunday 28th February at 10.30 a.m. from the Drive is available on Face book to https://www.facebook.com/The-Drive-Methodist-Church-St-Annes-on-the-Sea-1073502732725389/ and YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZhye__Glr3oQQhxLPwznCA/videos

I expect there will be an update on worship in the Circuit next week.

Have you seen that on BBC 1 this Sunday at 11.15 a.m. there is a Service for Lent from St Martin’s Church, Maidstone led by the Rev Kate Bottomley.

Regards

Stephen

For each of the weeks in Lent Paul Davis, Chair of the Lancashire District, will be sharing a video on his journey through the season as he reflects on the themes and studies he is pursuing.

Each video will be stand alone and will pick up one area that has struck Paul in a different way. These will help us as we all face a different Lent and look forward to a new future and opportunity that we not only remember through Holy Week and celebrate with Easter, but also as we seek to be disciples in this new future.

Videos will be available on the District Website – https://www.lancashiremethodist.org.uk/

Fairtrade and Climate Change – Saturday 27th February 2021 at 1pm

Stefan Donnelly from the Campaigns Team at the Fairtrade Foundation will highlight the growing challenges that climate change brings to farmers and workers in the communities Fairtrade works with. The facts are straightforward. Farmers and workers in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia and Honduras, who have done the least to contribute to climate change, are disproportionately affected by it. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/climate-fairtrade-and-you-tickets-141947156767

United by Fairtrade – Wednesday 3rd March 2021 at 7pm

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us more than ever how interconnected we are globally. This interconnection is at the very heart of the Fairtrade message, bringing people of all faiths, and none, together. Adam Gardner, Head of Campaigns at the Fairtrade Foundation, will talk about the challenges currently faced by farmers and workers in the global south – the ‘key workers beyond our borders’ and what we can do. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/united-by-fairtrade-tickets-141951722423

For the world

For our nation

For our community

For our church

For our family and friends

For ourselves

22 February

COVID 19

James 5 7-11

Let us pray to God,
who alone makes us dwell in safety:

For all who are affected by coronavirus,
through illness or isolation or anxiety,
that they may find relief and recovery:
For those who are guiding our nation at this time,
and shaping national policies,
that they may make wise decisions:

For those carrying out the vaccination programme and all the volunteers

For doctors, nurses and medical researchers,
that through their skill and insights
many will be restored to health:

For the vulnerable and the fearful,
for the gravely ill and the dying,
that they may know your comfort and peace:

We commend ourselves, and all for whom we pray,
to the mercy and protection of God.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Challenge

“Shrove Tuesday is fast approaching and to mark it this year, the CYF Team and myself had the idea of doing a fun challenge. We are wondering if you would be up for the challenge of making a Methodist themed pancake (see the picture attached). If you do take up the challenge, we’d love it if you could share the pictures/videos of your attempt on social media, using the hashtag #MethodistPancakes and also send your images to Phoebe Parkin (youthpresident@methodistchurch.org.uk) to share on the CYF/YP social media channels. You could simply use fruit or jam to decorate your pancake to look like the Methodist Orb or if you’re feeling particularly brave, use red food dye: our top tip for cooking the orb pancake is to make the white cross first and then fill in the red bits second! Perhaps you could also challenge others to have a go! Do let me know if you’re willing to accept the mission.”

This weeks Meditation. Presidency calls for Prayers and link to Archbishops call for 6pm prayer each evening

Healing Faith

Presidency calls for prayers of lament and hope

Statement from the Revd Richard Teal, President of the Methodist Conference and Carolyn Lawrence, Vice-President of the Methodist Conference:

“We know that many millions of people across the country have taken refuge in prayer during the pandemic. We join with the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in their call to set aside time each evening at 6pm to pray. There is a very great need amongst us to be able to lament the horrific loss of life and to find solace and hope during these dark days. Our prayer is that each of you will know that God is with us, sustaining us through our grief.”

Coronavirus: Archbishops invite nation to pause, pray and remember 100,000 people ‘known to God and cherished by God’

26/01/2021
“100,000 isn’t just an abstract figure – each number is a person: someone we loved and someone who loved us.”

“Death doesn’t have the last word. In God’s kingdom, every tear will be wiped away.”

Carolyn Lawrence has recorded a prayer following the announcement of 100, 000 deaths in the UK due to Covid-19.

Join Richard and Carolyn each Monday on Facebook where they reflect on some issues that we are all feeling at the moment including loss and anxiety.
